Is Live-In Care
the right option for you?
Live-in home care services can make the difference between
staying independent at
home and being forced into a nursing home for many seniors.
While many consider this service a blessing, it is not right
for everyone. Below are questions which can assist you in determining
if hiring a live-in is the right choice.
- Are you uncomfortable leaving your loved one alone for
a period of time?
- Are you afraid of leaving your loved one alone at night?
- Are you afraid of your loved one falling?
- Are you afraid of your loved one forgetting to take medications?
- Is your loved one forgetful to the point where you are
concerned they might leave the stove on or leave doors unlocked?
- Does your own schedule prevent you from doing the things
your loved one needs?
- Do you feel having around the clock care would be helpful
but more expensive than you can afford?
- Did your loved one’s doctor prescribe in-home care?
If you answered YES to any or all of the questions, a live-in
may be the right option for your loved one.
Other considerations - Living arrangements
Do you have an extra room or private area for a person to sleep?
Would you or a loved one be open to having another person living
in the house?
General Information
Live-in care offers many advantages to hourly care. The thought
of knowing an additional person is in the house can be comforting
and in many cases vital to seniors staying in their homes. While
they can get up at night if necessary, the live-in must be able
to get adequate sleep. Additionally, while they are there 24
hours per day, they are not expected to work that entire time.
They must be given private time for their own quiet enjoyment.
When sleeping or the need for constant supervision is more than
one personcan handle, other affordable arrangement can still
be made. If you are considering live-in care but are not sure
if this type of care is right for your unique situation, call
your home care coordinator to discuss your options.
